In the last few decades, vada pav, samosa, donuts, pizza, burgers, rolls, wraps, frankies, french fries, etc. You walk out of your house and see them being served everywhere from shopping malls, restaurants and street corners to office and college shops.

But have you ever wondered why they are called ‘junk’? The word 'junk' refers to something that is extravagant and useless. And all your delicious, favorite food makes perfect justice in the meaning of the word. The effects of these unhealthy foods on your life are terrible, whether you have them once in a while, twice a week or every day.

See how these insects play a vital role in the deterioration of your health.

1. Junk food can be the cause of your fatigue: Although junk food and fast food make you feel full and satisfied, they do not have all the nutrients they need such as protein and carbohydrates to keep your body strong and healthy. If you eat junk food every time you are hungry, you may feel incessantly tired. It can reduce your energy levels to the point that it can be difficult for you to perform your daily activities.

2. Junks' diet can lead to teen depression: Many hormonal changes occur in adolescents that put them at risk for mood swings and behavioral changes. And a healthy diet plays an important role in maintaining that hormonal balance. Because of a lack of nutritious food, the risk of depression in young people increased by 58 percent.

3. Impaired digestion: Those who are addicted to junk food are more likely to have digestive problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and  syndrome (IBS). That’s because junk food is deep fried. Therefore, oil from unhealthy foods is absorbed into the stomach causing the acid. They cause irritation of the gastrointestinal tract because they are highly spicy, and also lack essential fiber for proper digestion.

4. Causes low blood sugar levels: Unhealthy foods are high in pure sugar which puts your body under pressure. Pure sugar causes the pancreas to release more insulin to prevent a strong speaker from having high blood sugar levels. Because junk food lacks sufficient levels of carbohydrates and proteins, blood sugar levels drop dramatically after a meal. This makes you feel angry and further increases your desire to get junk food.

5. Affects brain function: Studies published in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity show that one week of unhealthy eating is enough to cause memory impairment in mice. Recent research shows that bad fats (trans fats) from junk food tend to replace healthy fats in the brain and disrupt their normal signature process. Studies in animals have also shown that fats from unhealthy foods reduce the ability to learn new skills.

6. Increases the risk of heart disease: The Junks diet increases cholesterol and triglyceride levels which are major risk factors for developing heart disease. In addition, fats from the junk food build up over time in your body to make you fat. If you put on too much weight, it increases your risk of heart attack.

7. It can cause kidney disease: The reason you never refuse fries and chips is because they contain a high amount of well-processed salt that increases saliva production and releases enzymes that increase your appetite. High amounts of bad fats and sodium from salt increase blood pressure and affect kidney function.

8. It can damage your liver: The high levels of fat found in the amount of junk food can lead to fatty deposits in the liver, which can lead to liver failure.

9. It can cause type 2 diabetes: When you eat a healthy diet, your body gets a fixed glucose that helps maintain insulin sensitivity. But if you eat only junk food, the excess pressure in your body can affect your body's ability to use insulin properly.

10. Increases the risk of cancer: A study published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention has shown that eating a high-sugar and can increase your chances of developing cancer. Another study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, showed that men who ate more than twice as much fried foods a month had a higher risk of developing prostate cancer.
